Bangladesh National Herbarium (BNH) is a national research organization for plant taxonomic research and museum of dried plant specimens. BNH is an attached department under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. It deals with the exploration, collection, identification, preservation of plants and floristic publication of the country. During Floristic surveys, Scientists of Herbarium collect fertile plant specimens from all over the country. They mount the samples including duplicates and write down necessary information in the field register book and bring them to the herbarium. After scrutinizing the samples with extensive taxonomic study they identify the collected samples which are later on going to preserve as herbarium dried sheets in the herbarium cupboards in a scientific manner along with the information of unique accession number, species name with author citation, family, local name (if any), collector name, collection place, longitude, latitude, uses and important note. These floristic activities contributed to publication of national flora as 'Flora of Bangladesh' familywise, checklists, other plant related important publications.
As a part of documentation and digitization of these plant resources of Bangladesh National Herbarium, a online based plant specimen database and e-flora has been initiated by the authority of BNH. This application software is targeted to develop a database with the basic information of Herbarium sheets as well as specimen images. It also provides e-flora and other publications of BNH in the form of detailed as well as brief description (where imply) for noticing the users. This software is so far designed in such a way that visitors can visit the site and get necessay information of plant resources of Bangladesh. On the other hand, admin and registered users (resource persons of BNH) can log in dashboard to input and update the plant specimen database, e-flora and other publications.
